Lake Monger Community Shed

What we do

Our activities are directed by the wishes of our members. Members work on their own projects as well as projects that can be donated to other community groups or used to help fund the ongoing costs of running the shed.

The initial focus of the Shed was woodwork, wood-turning and metal work but now it has a very active pottery group, art group and digital machinery group. Should our members wish to pursue other activities, then we will attempt to meet their wishes.

Currently the activities in the Shed involve these main groups:

Woodworking >>

Pottery >>

Metalworking >>

Digital Machinery >>

Art Group >>

Woodworking

The LMCS has a well-equipped general workshop and machine room.  To use the machines, you must first undertake a safety induction. There are always people in the Shed who will be able to help and advise you about the best way to build just about anything!

We have an integrated dust control system and commercial grade woodworking machines:

  • Thicknesser / Planer

  • 2 x Table Saws

  • 2 x Router Tables

  • Drill Press

  • 3 x Wood Lathes

  • 3 x Bandsaws

  • 2 x Mitre Saws

Pottery

The pottery group has sessions on Wednesday and Saturday mornings as well as Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Members are also welcome to use the pottery facilities during general sessions - as long they clean up afterwards!

There are areas for hand-building, eight pottery wheels, two electric kilns and a selection of glazes available. Members pay a small charge for the use of glazes and for firing, and can purchase clay from the Shed.

Metalworking

The metal work area has a number of welders, cutting gear and fume extraction system. We have recently purchased a set of cold bending equipment, so members can make metal objects without welding.

Equipment includes:

  • Welders

  • Plasma cutter

  • Metal lathe

  • Cold bending equipment

Digital Machinery

Digital Machinery is an evolving realm within the Shed with a focus on using digital tools (i.e. computers) to create 3D models before they are either printed using the 3D printers or cut on the CNC machine.

Equipment:

  • 1200*1200 CNC

  • Filament 3D printer

  • Precision resin 3D printer

Art Group

Art Group meets once per week.
